Flying Scholarships Programme 2020
For decades, the RAF Association has been running its Flying Scholarship programme, which is currently available to the RAF Air Cadets, the Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets, and members of the Air Scouts and Air Explorer Scouts.
The successful candidates receive 12 hours of flying lessons at South Warwickshire Flying School, which, depending on their rate of progress, could earn them their light aircraft pilot licence. One outstanding candidate will receive 35 hours of flying lessons.
These scholarships are awarded every year in recognition of outstanding commitment and support by young people in these organisations to the RAF Association and other good causes. They are presented at the RAF Association’s annual conference, with senior RAF personnel in attendance.
More than 250 young people applied for 11 places on the 2019 Flying Scholarships. Two of the scholarships were sponsored by the Aviation Focus Group, which promotes the exchange of aviation information and encourages young people interested in the industry, and three of them by MBDA, a multi-national defence contractor. The RAF Association funded the other six.
