Olivia Brown | Junior member | Cadet
My names Olivia Brown, I’m a Cadet Flight Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. I first heard about RAFA from one of my staff at my Sqn ( 1279 Melton Mowbray ). We held regular charity events for RAFA and that’s how I got involved. I’ve only been a member for a year and a half but RAFA is a great charity and has provided me with an amazing opportunity in awarding me a twelve hour scholarship to allow me to take a big step towards a career as a pilot. The association helps a wide range of members from the RAF and their families, to help find them comfort and with their great deal of support it’s like a big community where everyone is welcome, that’s what I love about RAFA.
Alex Braybrook | Junior member | Cadet
Hi, I’m Alex, a cadet Flight Sergeant at 115 (Peterborough) Squadron RAF Air Cadets. My first experience with the RAF Association was at a fundraising bag-packing event, but I only realised just how much RAFA does when I assisted at the RAFA Colour Chaos fun run at RAF Wittering! What amazed me was how the charity managed to put on these great events, have fun, bring people of all backgrounds together and on top of that, raise money for the wings appeal. I joined as a junior member to enter for all of the prize draws that RAFA have, and find out more about them having seen first hand the brilliant work they do. However, the RAF Association enabled me to achieve something even better, I gained my light aircraft pilot’s licence at the age of 17 and before I could even drive a car thanks to their generosity!
Ultimately, joining the RAF as a pilot is my dream job, and to know that you would have the support of the RAF Association behind you, whenever you need them would be extremely reassuring. RAFA provide an immense deal of support to those who need it in the RAF family, and I am proud to both be a member and fundraiser for such a great cause.
Abbi Flynn | Junior member | Cadet
My name is Abbi Flynn and I’m a Cadet Sergeant from 739 (Scarborough) Air Cadets. I initially joined the ATC after watching my brother get some amazing chances through the organisation, and upon turning 12, jumped at the chance. I’m most passionate about the inclusivity of the RAFA, from helping friends and family of serving personnel to retired veterans of the RAF; giving opportunities to such a diverse group of people, the lack of discrimination and accepting nature of the RAFA has helped me achieve in ways i never thought possible. The Royal Air Force Association has given me many opportunities, starting with representing them at numerous events by carrying their banner, and most recently completing a 12 hour flying scholarship. I can’t thank the RAFA enough for all they have given back to me.
