Message from our Chair:

RAFA Aphrodite and Covid-19

Dear all,

Following recent news events, governmental restrictions and medical advice I had cancelled our next Garden Party planning and general committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday 18 Mar 2020.

I have taken this decision in consultation with some of our committee members and asked that we further consider the viability of the Garden Party planned for this June.

Initial risk assessment highlighted the following:

Currently all Cypriot restaurants are closed with effect 16 Mar.
Non-Cyprus residents are currently banned from entering the country.
Those resident and returning are quarantined and only if they have an almost unobtainable medically fit chit.
All inbound passengers to RAF Akrotiri are subject to 14 days quarantine.
Commander British Forces Cyprus is upholding all Cypriot government recommendations.
The vast majority of our RAFA members are in the defined ‘at risk’ category.
The UK are currently considering a 3 month self-isolation for the over 70s.
Public gatherings in excess of 75 are currently prohibited.
There are no forecasts of when the ‘all clear’ will be issued.
We need to start selling tickets now thereby enabling cost viability of our event.

Considering the above and doubtless other as yet unissued instructions, again in consultation, the majority of committee are of the opinion to cancel.  Accordingly, I drafted and send a letter to the CO stating our regrets while highlighting the challenges.

Furthermore, and considering the extent of a multitude of concerns, I have decided to suspend all RAFA Aphrodite activities until further notice.  Notwithstanding this, if anyone needs any help, no matter what, please get in contact and we’ll endeavour to help out without compromising any of the current guidance.

Far from ideal but we are in unprecedented times; be careful out there people.

Yours truly,

The New Branch Standard was Dedicated on the Tuesday the 4th July 2017 by our Padre Eric Freeman and Padre Matt Stevens at St Pauls Church Akrotiri. The old standardwas laid up in the Church at the same ceremony.
