Storybook Wings
RAFA is delighted to announce a delightful new welfare initiative called 'Storybook Wings' which some of you may be aware of. The concept involves parents recording stories and poems for their children so they may listen to them, and particularly their voices, if they are to be deployed.
How Storybook Wings Works
- The stories are professionally edited once recorded with the specialist equipment and put onto CDs with sound effects for the children to listen to whilst their parent/s is/are away.
- The project will be trialed this autumn at a number of RAF stations and if successful we will open it out to the rest of the RAF.
- A special campaign will be set up for those parents who will be away at Christmas and it is likely to start from September.
- In time we may be able to record stories and messages from children to parents; the project has a great deal of potential.
- For those of you who are not parents there may be scope, in time, to develop the service to record messages to loved ones on DVD for friends, partners and families.
- The project is in association with RAFCOM
Storybook Wings Progress Report- July 2008
- The Project Officer has completed her editing training and produced her first demo CD - a big 'thank you' to 'Storybook Dads' who facilitated the training.
- High quality recording equipment is currently being issued to the RAF stations participating in the project.
- Several UK publishers have already granted permission to use their nursery rhymes and stories, we are currently in negotiations with other publishers to obtain further permission.
- A number of volunteers have expressed an interest in helping with recording and editing activities.
- We hope to produce our first professionally edited CD in the near future.
