2012 Flying scholarships

For over 8 years, the RAF Association has been running it’s Flying Scholarship programme.  Once again we are very happy to open this opportunity up to the Air Cadet Organisation and Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets as a way of saying a huge thank you for all of the support you have given to us throughout the year.  With the offer of the scholarships, we hope to help a few of you achieve your National Private Pilot Licence.

The five scholarships awarded annually consist of one overall winning cadet receiving a course of 35 hours flying training in light aircraft, plus four runners-up receiving 12 hours training each.

The 2012 Flying Scholarship scheme is now open for applications. If you’re interested, please read the Terms and Conditions thoroughly and then download the Application Form. Please be sure to read both documents carefully before filling them in!

Cadets get set to fly after receiving Flying Scholarship awards

The RAF Association presented five Air Cadets with their tickets to fly after selecting the winners of the 2011 Flying Scholarship Award.

/2011 Conference/Air_Cadet_Flying_Scholarship_winnersThe RAF Association Flying Scholarship award is presented each year as a thank you to members of the Air Cadet Organisation and the Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets for their continuous support to the RAF Association.

The Flying Scholarship Award provides the winning candidates with a course of flying training in a light aircraft and covers all or part of the tuition needed to obtain a National Private Pilot Licence (NPPL).

The top prize, won by Cadet Sergeant Jonathan Coates from 886 (City of Ripon) Sqn ATC, is 35 hours of flying training. Cadet Warrant Officer Vici Bates, Cadet Sergeant Rob Watson and Cadet Flight Sergeant’s Siena Whiteside and Tom Bean all received 12 hours of flying training each.

Anne Henson, services liaison manager for the RAF Association, comments; “The Flying Scholarship Award is our way of saying thank you to the cadets who work tirelessly throughout the year to raise much-needed funds for the RAF Wings Appeal and to raise the profile of the Association to a wider audience.

“All of the winners were extremely worthy and we would like to wish them luck as they get ready to take their training!”
