On September 9th the advertising agency BIG Communications (who were commissioned to undertake our refreshment exercise) had the opportunity to present an overview of their findings to the Executive Board of the RAF Association. During this presentation BIG showed the Board a snapshot of the research and how this had led them to put together a new brand image for RAFA. Examples of this new exciting brand image were then given to the board for comment.
I am pleased to say that the Board were delighted with the ideas and creative designs, a sample
of which is contained within this page. As we now produce our marketing plan for the Board to endorse we will then incorporate the designs with all of our relevant information. This could be leaflets, posters or advertising material, in fact whatever is required for the marketing plan to work whether it is for membership, fundraising or welfare purposes. When this has been decided the final stage is to get the material printed and distributed ready for everyone to use.
Before launching the new material we will wait until all Branches have been given new stocks of leaflets and general advertising matter. At this point we will ask everyone to dispose of their old material (in an environmentally friendly fashion!) and start using the new branding.
I am absolutely convinced that this is the right way to go for the Association. It presents us in a very professional, modern and relevant light and will make us readily identifiable as the Royal Air Forces Association and much closer to the Royal Air Force. We need to be much more visible and shout about the excellent work we do, this way more people will understand our cause and hopefully be encouraged to come and join us. Particularly to add to our ever outstanding, but regrettably diminishing, band of willing volunteers!
This is only the beginning of the process and we are working on many ideas including how we best help Branches. On this note we are looking at more membership based events and seeing what measures we need to introduce to provide more membership support to the Areas.
I hope you will share our enthusiasm by welcoming and endorsing the new look for RAFA. We will be taking every opportunity to travel around the Areas to talk to our membership about this work and listen to your comments and suggestions about moving forward together.
Each of these images above and below individually represent aspects of RAFA and the ways and means of serving the RAF community in our many methods.
The RAFA website will also undergo a makeover to incorporate the developments in the coming months, please look out for the changes. In the meanwhile, please view the Wings Appeal website for more insight into the use of the new material.

The RAF Association’s first ever national carol concert saw Peterborough Cathedral filled to the rafters as “Carols by Candlelight” went down a treat with members of the local community and serving personnel alike.
