The RAF Families Federation is a publicly funded organisation. It is parented by the RAF Association and pays for any services provided by our charity.
The Federation defines itself as: Acting as a barometer of family morale, telling it like it is, and representing ordinary families’ views on RAF life, knowing that the only voices that matter are those of the family members we represent.
The RAF Families Federation (FF) represents the views and concerns of RAF personnel and their family members on the issues that affect them as part of a RAF family. Whether the Family member is in uniform, a spouse, a partner, a parent, a child or a sibling of a member of the RAF, the FF is here to act on their behalf.
As an independent organisation, the FF operates entirely outside the RAF chain of command promising an independent and confidential service.
The organisation continually gathers evidence and put the Family’s views and concerns in front of the people who can make a difference, such as senior RAF and MoD staffs and Ministers, influencing change, where it is needed, for the better.
The RAF Families Federation is in ever-increasing demand to provide independent evidence on family-related issues. Recent engagement has been with the House of Commons Select Committee, the Armed Forces Bill Committee and a bespoke group of Shadow Defence Ministers seeking to review Defence policy from their perspective.
Evidence is also required to inform the published Armed Forces Covenant and they are required to represent the families’ perspective at evidence sessions with the Armed Forces Pay Review Body (AFPRB) and the Future Accommodation Project Team (FAP) as part of the New Employment Model (NEM).
In order to feed this requirement for independent evidence, the FF team go out on the road around RAF stations and units, seeking evidence from family members, both serving and non-serving. Surveys are also placed online for easy access for those unable to attend sessions.
